Warning from the Federal Government: A Cease on Lodging Underage Girls in Hotels

Hotel owners nationwide have been cautioned by the Federal Government against accommodating teenagers and underage girls, as they face the possibility of sanctions.

Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, the Minister of Women Affairs, delivered this message on Saturday during the ‘Unlock Training and Grants’ ceremony held in Abuja.

Incidents in January 2023 at the Federal Government College in Ijanikin, Lagos, involved students absconding from school to book hotel rooms for sexual activities with their female classmates.

These boarding students were reported to have escaped the school premises multiple times with their female peers, remaining off-campus for several days.

Investigations disclosed that the students participating in these activities were aged between 14 and 17.

Likewise, in April 2022, a viral video captured the encounter of a 15-year-old boy attempting to arrange accommodation for two girls and another boy in a hotel room.
