Police: Young man at Plateau bank with fake bomb strapped

Confirmation has been given by the Plateau State Police Command regarding the apprehension of a man discovered with what appeared to be an Improvised Explosive Device within a commercial Bank situated in Plateau State.

Reports from NewsNow indicated the emergence of a video on Monday showing a young man caught in the act of trying to detonate what seemed to be a bomb in a bank located in Dadin Kowa town of Jos South Local Government Area in Plateau State.

On Tuesday, Zagazola Makama, a security analyst with expertise in counter-insurgency in Lake Chad, mentioned in a post on his X handle, that an unidentified individual was found wearing belts containing what seemed like a Person Borne Improvised Explosive Device (SPBIED).

Makama stated that the suspect was apprehended on Monday as he was discovered with a bomb seemingly attached to his body with the intention of detonating it within the bank premises.

The security professional elaborated that the bank’s vigilante security personnel thwarted the detonation by apprehending the suspect upon sighting him, thereby preventing him from carrying out his plan.

State Police spokesperson DSP Alfred Alabo, in confirming the incident on Tuesday, mentioned that the command swiftly deployed its officers to the Bank upon receiving an alert.

He revealed that upon further investigation, it was established that the items seen on the young man purported to be explosives were indeed false.
