One Month Passed Since Nomination, Olubadan Throne Still Vacant

Following his appointment by the Olubadan-in-Council, Owolabi Akinloye Olakulehin is yet to be coronated as the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland, as reported by NewsNow.

Hailing from the Okugbaja lineage in the Ita Baale area of Ibadan North East local government, Olakulehin currently holds the title of Balogun of Ibadanland.

The vacancy in the Olubadan of Ibadanland position arose due to the passing of the 42nd Olubadan, Oba Lekan Balogun.

Olakulehin was nominated as the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland on Friday, April 12, 2024, by the Olubadan-in-Council, with the meeting chaired by the Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, High Chief Rasidi Adewolu Ladoja.

His nomination has been forwarded to the Oyo State government for approval and public announcement, but a coronation date is yet to be declared.

Despite calls from some notable figures in Ibadan, urging the governor to expedite Olakulehin’s confirmation and coronation, the state government has cited administrative reasons for the delay.

Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters Commissioner, Olusegun Olayiwola, emphasized the importance of following due process in the coronation of a paramount ruler like the Olubadan of Ibadanland.

Olayiwola assured NewsNow that the administrative issues causing the delay would be addressed promptly, hinting that a formal announcement would be made soon.
