Nigeria’s Kelechi Nwakali Faces Sanctions for Phone Use on Substitutes’ Bench in Portugal

Portuguese SuperLiga side Chaves is considering serious sanctions against Nigerian midfielder Kelechi Nwakali for being caught using his phone while on the substitutes’ bench.

Although Nwakali started Chaves’ league game against Famalicao last weekend, he was substituted at halftime, and his team ended up losing the match 1-0 in a closely fought contest.

Following this defeat, Chaves was relegated from the Portuguese top-flight league.

The club is likely to impose sanctions on Nwakali for his behavior on the bench.

It is worth noting that Nwakali faced similar disciplinary issues at Spanish club Ponferradina, where he lost his contract for allegedly returning late to the club from the delayed 2021 AFCON in Cameroon.
