It’s worth noting that during the 2019 presidential election, Peter Obi served as Atiku’s running mate.

However, as the 2023 presidential election approached, the former Anambra State governor made a switch from the PDP to the LP.

Paul Ibe, Atiku’s Media Aide, implied on Sunday that Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), influenced Obi’s decision to leave the PDP.

Ibe explained that Wike’s opposition to the PDP’s decision to zone the presidential ticket to the Southeast region pushed Obi towards joining the LP.

According to Ibe, “Atiku did not push Peter Obi out of the party. Wike played a key role in Obi’s exit by advocating for the zoning of the presidency to the south.”

He continued, “Atiku Abubakar had indicated readiness to step aside from the ticket if the party agreed to zone it to the Southeast. Unfortunately, Wike’s stance hindered this effort as he favored a broader southern zoning, not specifically the southeast.”
