Investigation Launched by Niger Police into the Death of Two Poly Bida Students

An investigation has been initiated by the police in Niger to determine the cause of death of two students from the Federal Polytechnic, Bida, Niger State. The lifeless bodies of these students were found in their lodge at the Kobbo area of Bida, Bida local government area of the state on Sunday. Authorities suspect that the students may have died from food poisoning.

Commenting on the incident, State Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) SP Wasiu Abiodun stated that upon receiving information, the police team from Bida, led by the DPO of B Division, was dispatched to the scene.

Upon reaching the lodge, the police forced open the door to the room and discovered the bodies of the two deceased students lying dead on the floor in the sitting room.

The deceased individuals were identified as Oladapo Yusuf Olaitan, a 28-year-old from Osun State, and Aisha Abubakar, a 22-year-old female HND student from Lagos Street Minna, both from the Federal Polytechnic, Bida.

According to Abiodun, “On June 8, 2024, at approximately 1530 hours, information was received regarding the discovery of two lifeless bodies – a man and a woman from Federal Poly, Bida – in their lodge at ‘D’ Aliyu House, Kobbo, Bida.”

Abiodun further disclosed that leftover food and some tablets were found at the scene and have been sent for medical analysis.

He also noted that no signs of struggle or violence were evident on the bodies of the deceased individuals. “Their corpses have been taken to the FMC Bida for autopsy. The incident is currently under investigation,” added the state Police spokesman.
