Ekiti government calls for peace following assault on Eda Oniyo community

In response to the attack on Eda Oniyo community in Ilejemeje Local Government Area of Ekiti State, the state government has urged residents to remain calm.

Rt. Hon. Taiwo Olatunbosun, the State Commissioner for Information, reassured the public in a statement released in Ado Ekiti that the situation is now under control.

Sadly, one individual from the community lost their life during the violent incident, which stemmed from a boundary dispute between Eda Oniyo Ekiti and Obo Ayegunle in Kwara State. The attack occurred when armed individuals from Obo Ayegunle targeted Eda Oniyo on Saturday.

Security forces including soldiers, police, and members of the Amotekun Corps swiftly responded to the crisis to restore peace in the area.

Additional troops have been deployed to safeguard the community, with efforts made to coordinate with the Kwara State Army formation to reinforce security along the Kwara border and prevent further attacks.

The Ekiti State Government remains dedicated to promoting peace and security in the region. While the security agencies are managing the situation, it is crucial for the community to remain calm. The authorities are working to identify and bring the perpetrators and their associates to justice.

The Commissioner expressed heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased individual and offered prayers for the speedy recovery of all those impacted by the tragic incident.
