U.S.
Equities Rebound Across All Major Indices.
Wall
street started the week on a positive note. On Monday, Jan. 8th, the tech-heavy
Nasdaq-100 led the pack at +2.11%. The S&P 500 followed close behind,
gaining +1.41%, while the Dow eked out a more modest +0.58% due to the
performance of Boeing which fell by over 6%, following the latest issue with
its 737 MAX 9 Jets..
Chip
makers led the gains of the session, with NVIDIA that surging by +6.43% to to
hit a record high of $522.53. AMD and Intel also advanced by +5.48% and +3.33%,
respectively. Other megacaps outperform including Amazon, Apple, and Alphabet
each were up over 1.5%.
However,
energy stocks took a negative turn as oil prices fell by -2.19% thanks to a
combination of Saudi Arabia's aggressive price cuts and OPEC's production
ramp-up. Investors now turn their attention to Thursday's crucial Consumer
Price Index (inflation) report release. On Friday, earnings season also
kickoff, with banking giants - Bank of America, Citigroup, JPMorgan Chase, and
Wells Fargo - set to unveil their financial performance on Friday.
