Dr. Godwin Audu |
The New Acting Comptroller General, Nigeria Agricultural
Quarantine Service (NQS), Dr. Godwin Audu says the service will enforce
policies that will make export of agricultural produce easier for Exporters.
He stated this at the handover ceremony by the Agency’s pioneer
Comptroller, Dr. Vincent Isegbe at the expiration of his tenure in accordance
with the NAQS Establishment Act.
Dr Audu promised to implement ease of doing business in line
with the Presidential Enabling Environment Council effort within the export environment.
He noted that NAQS is committed to enhancing the export
environment by expediting inspection and certification services, streamlining
application processes, and automating quarantine procedures.
These efforts aim to significantly make life easier for
agro-exporters and reduce the processing time for agricultural export
documentation.
Dr Audu said the agency will optimize operation at interstate
control stations to minimize delays in the haulage of agro commodities.
He also spoke on collaborative efforts with stakeholders to
address and eliminate illegal operators causing bottlenecks on Federal
highways.
NAQS is a regulatory agency under the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security.
It was created for the harmonization of Plants,
Veterinary and Aquatic resources (fisheries) Quarantine in Nigeria to promote
and regulate sanitary (animal and fisheries health) and phytosanitary(plant
health) measures in connection with the import and export of agricultural
products with a view to minimizing the risk to agricultural economy, food
safety and the environment.
