In a statement, the Special Adviser
to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr Bayo Onanuga, explained that
the yacht in question was for the purpose of security operations and not for
use by the President for pleasure’s sake.
He said the yacht was ordered by the
Navy under the previous administration, adding that President Tinubu considered
its importance in the maintenance of National security, hence its inclusion in
the supplementary budget.
According to the statement the
payment request for the boat was part of the committed obligation submitted by
the office of the Chief of Naval Staff to the Ministry of Defence, upon which
the total requests submitted requests was in excess of 200 billion Naira, out
which the President approved 62 billion Naira.
The statement said President Tinubu
is focused on securing the country and her territorial waters, adding that the
government is investing more resources to enhance greater economic output from
oil and gas, as well as marine and blue economy.
It stated that Nigerians will soon
get the benefits of the ongoing reforms that would lead to a buoyant and
improved quality of life.
