A Federal lawmaker in Plateau Hon Yusuf Gagdi has refunded the registration fees of the West Africa Examination Council (WAEC), National Examination Council (NECO) and the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
Gagdi represents Pankshin/Kanke/Kanam Federal Constituency of the state.
Nde John Gobak, Chairman of the Advisory Council of the Constituency disclosed this on Thursday in Pankshin.
Gobak, a former Secretary to the State Government (SSG), made the disclosure at the inauguration of three committees for the verification and disbursement of WAEC and balance of NECO fees for 2022.
The elder statesman who lauded the educational intevention of the lawmaker, said that over 10,000 students benefitted from Gagdi's gesture.
''Because of his desire to encourage constituents, particularly the younger generation who are desirous to further their education, in 2021, he refunded the UTME registration fee of 2, 194 candidates at the rate of N12,000 each.
''He also spent over N73 million to refund the WAEC and NECO registration fees for 3,412 candidates in June 2022.
''Currently, he has made available over N96 million for the refund of WAEC and NECO fee for students that their parents had paid before the intervention in 2022.
''In summary, the lawmaker has spent over N181 million to support the education of 10, 177 students in this constituency,''Gobak said.
The chairman explained that the committees aimed at ensuring that the monies to be refunded gets directly to the beneficiaries, their parents or guidians.
He disclosed that the committees would commence work by Monday, Jan. 23, and called on all beneficiaries to come to their respective Area Inspectorates Offices in the three Local Government Areas for verification and payment.
Gobak also commended the myriad of projects initiated and completed by the Gagdi in various sectors and called on the people of the constituency to vote the lawmaker come Feb. 25 2023 .
